<p>We are calling on the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to intensify their research efforts with the goal of implementing scientifically supported changes to blood donation eligibility criteria. Further expanding blood donation eligibilty would create opportunities for an even larger number of individuals to safely donate blood, ultimately saving even more lives through increased blood donations.</p>

In May 2023, the FDA issued new guidance establishing a blood donor screening process based on individual donor assessments, not sexual orientation.

This is a positive step forward, but there is still work to be done to make blood donation as inclusive as possible. I sign my name in support of further research by the FDA regarding donor eligibility. I want the FDA to update eligibility criteria based on scientific evidence in order to broaden the pool of potential blood donors. By doing so, we can ensure a safe and available blood supply for all patients in need.
