A Medicare Payment Fix is Long Overdue

A Medicare Payment Fix is Long Overdue.

As you know, physicians are the only Medicare providers whose payments do not automatically receive an annual inflationary update; during this time of record inflation and coming on the heels of a highly disruptive pandemic, this statutory flaw amplifies threats to the financial viability of physician practices.

Recently a bi-partisan group of physician members of Congress introduced H.R. 2474, legislation that would change this flawed system to allow physicians to receive inflationary updates, based on the Medicare Economic Index (MEI), similar to those received by other health care providers.

While there are many other concerns with the Medicare physician payment system that still need to be addressed, this legislation is a great first step toward fixing payment inequities and injecting financial stability into physician practices, allowing them to invest in new ways of providing care and ultimately assuring that Medicare beneficiaries maintain their access to high-quality care.

Please show your support for our country’s physicians and their patients by supporting H.R. 2474 today.
