Urge Congress to tell the administration to unfreeze adult education funds
Act now to safeguard critical programs for adult learners and an essential talent pipeline for employers
On June 30, the U.S. Department of Education announced that all adult education funding has been frozen while under review by the Office of Management and Budget. This freeze affects $715 million in WIOA Title II Adult Education and Family Literacy Act (AEFLA) funding that should have been distributed on July 1 to states for the 2025-2026 program year. Additionally, earlier in May, the president proposed eliminating future funding for AEFLA in his FY26 budget request.
Federal funding for adult education is vital for America’s economic competitiveness and expanding economic opportunity across the nation. Jobs for the Future is calling on our partners to join us in urging Congress to take action to unfreeze and preserve this critical funding for adult learners.
This effort is a part of JFF’s overall federal policy agenda to strengthen education and workforce systems to ensure millions of Americans facing barriers to good jobs can access high-quality, choice-filled career pathways, skills-based learning experiences, and economic mobility supports—as outlined in our No Dead Ends campaign.
You can use the form to send a message to your members of Congress to ask them to contact OMB Director Russell Vought and the U.S. Department of Education to immediately lift the funding freeze and release the adult education funding to states.
