Tell the Virginia Assembly to Increase Funding in Homelessness Response and Supportive Housing Programs

Background

Tens of thousands of Virginians are struggling every day with the rising costs of housing. This number could increase if the Federal Administration continues its reckless campaign to cut federal funding for or add barriers to life-saving programs that support homelessness and affordable housing efforts in the Commonwealth.

That is why the Virginia Housing Alliance is asking the General Assembly to support the following 5 budget requests:

1. 102#2s (Ebbin) / 102#23s (Lopez): Increases the Virginia Housing Trust Fund to expand and preserve the supply of homes for low-income households. Sets aside a minimum of $30M to be used for homeless reduction grants to respond to federal funding threats.

2. 102#13h (McClure) / 102#1s (Locke): Increases funding for rapid rehousing and administrative needs for our homeless response system.

3. 301#10h (Willet) / 301#9s (Boysko): Increases the State Rental Assistance Program, which provides rental subsidies to individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities.

4. 102#9h (Krizek) / 102#14h (McClure) / 102#3s (Boysko) / 102#4s (Locke): Increases the Virginia Eviction Reduction Program, which provides flexible funding to local and regional nonprofits that work with community members at risk of eviction.

5. 301#2s (Favola): Provides funding to support grants to localities for permanent supportive housing for individuals with extraordinary barriers who are discharged from state behavioral health facilities and hospitals.

These investments will ensure that citizens of Virginia are able to find safe and affordable housing options across the Commonwealth.
