As your constituent and an advocate for religious freedom, I write to express my deep concern regarding the ongoing atrocities facing the Alawite minority in Syria. The Alawite community has endured violence, persecution, and forced conscription, often caught in the crossfire of geopolitical conflicts beyond their control. Despite misconceptions, Alawites are not a monolithic political group but a religious and ethnic minority in urgent need of protection and support.

The recent massacre of over a thousand Alawite civilians in Al Mukhtareyah and surrounding areas is a horrifying reminder of the dangers facing this community. Reports indicate that gunmen stormed the town, executing unarmed residents and leaving their bodies in the streets. Verified video footage confirms these killings, underscoring the urgent need for international action to prevent further sectarian violence.
To address this crisis, I urge you to sign the Dear Colleague Letter led by Representative John James by April 11. This letter calls for immediate U.S. government action to protect Alawites and other religious minorities in Syria. 

Additionally, I respectfully request your support for the following policy recommendations:
- Release all war and religious prisoners.
- Ensure that all minority groups are politically represented in the formation of the government in accordance with UN Resolution 2254.
- Require that any U.S. government sanctions on Syria be conditional on ensuring that HTS armed forces no longer operate in minority cities and villages and are replaced by local police, guaranteeing that the benefits reach these communities.
- Delay removing HTS from the terrorist list until all minority groups are included in the government and accorded equal rights, ensuring that all religious groups in Syria, including Christians, have the right to hold the office of president.
- Advocate for protection against religious and gender-based persecution of Alawite women.
