When Denver increased parking meter rates in 2021, the City committed to using these funds for safer streets initiatives. The so-called Transportation &amp; Mobility Fund generates about $15 million a year, ostensibly for things like safer crossings, bike lanes, and transit. But in the City's 2026 budget, the extra money you pay to park at meters is being used to help other people get out of their parking tickets!
The Safety Over Slush campaign is about getting this fund back on track and keeping it there. We’re calling on City Council to lock in its original purpose by prioritizing real safety investments, protecting revenue from being siphoned off for other purposes, and setting clear rules for how it can be used, like requiring half to go to physical improvements such as protected bike lanes and spending the money on implementation of all Denver’s great plans like the <a href="https://www.denvergov.org/files/assets/public/v/5/vision-zero/documents/denver-vision-zero-action-plan.pdf" target="_self"><ins>Vision Zero Action Plan</ins></a>.&nbsp;

Tell Denver City Council: Safety Over Slush!

93 people were killed in traffic incidents on Denver streets in 2025, but the City's Transportation & Mobility Special Revenue Fund was created to decrease that number by investing in pedestrian, bicycle, transit, and Vision Zero safety improvements. Instead of funding safer streets, millions have been redirected to unrelated uses.

Please commit to amending the Transportation & Mobility Special Revenue Fund ordinance to align investments with adopted plans like Vision Zero, to define allowable uses and demonstrate accountability, and to protect the original intent of the fund.
