Oppose Stricter Statewide Rent Control

Protect the Single-Family Home Exemption & Sunset Date!

Earlier this year, SCRHA helped stop AB 1157 from moving forward. However, ACCE (the group behind attempts to repeal Costa-Hawkins, local rent control attempts, and backers of Tenant Protection Ordinances) is pressuring the author to give the bill another chance at life on January 13, 2026. Assemblymember Kalra will present the bill to the Judiciary Committee. We need to stop this bill now so it can't move forward in 2026!

HELP US BY TAKING ACTION NOW – CONTACT THE MEMBERS THE COMMITTEE AND VOICE YOUR OPPOSITION TO LOWER STATEWIDE RENT CAPS.

If this misguided bill passes and is eventually signed by the Governor, it would:

  • Limit annual rent increases to just 2% plus the change in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) or 5%, whichever is less. Today, the statewide rent cap is 5% plus CPI or 10%, whichever is less.
  • Remove the exemption for Single-family homes and condominiums.
  • Repeal the “sunset” provision for statewide rent caps and Just Cause under AB 1482 making the law permanent.

We need your help to defeat this harmful legislation. Take Action today and Urge lawmakers to VOTE NOT ON AB 1157.
