For Non-Genetic Counselor Clinicians to Send to their Members of Congress: Co-Sponsor the Access to Genetic Counselor Services Act

Genetic counselors are part of healthcare teams across many specialties – prenatal, pediatric, oncology, neurology, psychiatry, and more. Their work not only empowers patients, but also helps avoid unnecessary testing, tailors treatments, reduces costs, and advances prevention.
And yet, despite the important role they play, Medicare does not recognize genetic counselors as providers. This means they cannot be directly reimbursed for the services we provide, creating barriers to care for seniors who need our expertise.
As a clinician, we are asking you to support the Access to Genetic Counselor Services Act, led by Rep. Adrian Smith (R-NE) and Rep. Kathy Castor (D-FL) and encourage your representatives to do the same.
This bill would finally recognize genetic counselors as Medicare providers and ensure that beneficiaries can access the personalized, high-quality care they deserve. Please stand with patients, families, and providers in our community by supporting this legislation.
