Act Now and Urge Congress to Vote NO on Budget Reconciliation 2.0

As your constituent, I am urgently calling on you to vote ‘NO’ on the forthcoming Budget Reconciliation measure.

The last year has shown just how much damage unchecked federal agencies can inflict on communities when let loose. This $70bn would be a virtual blank check for ICE and CBP to continue just as they have been – destroying neighborhoods, ruining businesses, and tearing families apart – with no checks or balances.

Over the past year, hundreds of thousands of people have been ripped from their communities. Detention of individuals with no criminal record has risen 25 times over, while independent and Congressional reports both show that detention facilities are sites of horrifying medical conditions and staggering levels of sexual assault. In thousands of cases across the country, federal judges have found those detentions illegal.

All the while, prices just keep going up – so much so that relative wages are now falling, and hostile federal dragnet operations are a key part of why. Even the current Department of Labor has acknowledged that the Administration’s immigration policies play a major role in increasing food prices.

Even children have been swept up; school absences are rising by double digits in classrooms across the country amid justified fears that even young children may be detained and deported to countries they have never known.

Congress cannot pass legislation that rubber stamps destruction, abuse, and civil rights violations. I urge you to vote ‘No’ on this Budget Reconciliation measure. These funds should not be appropriated without deep, meaningful reforms and safety guarantees for American communities.
