Help us build support in the House for recognizing May 2026 as PSP & CBD Awareness Month
For three years in a row, CurePSP has partnered with key congressional offices around a PSP & CBD Awareness Resolution for the month of May. We are excited to share that in 2026, for the first time, there was a companion resolution introduced in the Senate, by Senator Richard Blumenthal! We need your help to foster additional support! The below message will be sent to your U.S. Senators. While not required, please feel free to add a brief (recommended: no more than a few sentences) personal message to accompany it. Thank you for advocating with CurePSP!
As your constituent, I am writing to urge you to cosponsor the Senate Resolution recognizing May 2026 as Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) and Corticobasal Degeneration (CBD) Awareness Month, introduced by Sen. Richard Blumenthal.
PSP and CBD are neurodegenerative conditions that cause significant difficulty with speech, swallowing, balance, coordination and much more. While some effects of PSP and CBD are similar to those of Parkinson’s disease, they are distinct conditions that impact approximately 35,000 Americans. Although PSP and CBD are largely unknown to the average person and even most medical providers, they are believed to be as common as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig’s), although are drastically under- and misdiagnosed. Most people living with PSP and CBD become dependent on care in just 3-4 years and on average, they carry a life expectancy of 7-8 years from symptom onset. There are no known treatments or cure for PSP or CBD at present and the diagnoses can only be definitively confirmed post-mortem. Learn more at curepsp.org
In September 2023, former Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton (VA-10), announced that she was diagnosed with PSP and spent the remainder of her time in office taking crucial steps to shine light on this complex brain disease, including the first-ever introduction of a federal month of awareness resolution. In the 119th Congress, Rep. Suhas Subramanyam, Congresswoman Wexton’s successor, has carried on her work and filed the resolution. This year for the first time, both chambers will have the opportunity to recognize these diseases and the devastating impacts they have on Americans across the country.
Raising awareness, especially among our legislators, is essential to advancing better diagnosis, treatment and prevention of these diseases. I hope you will show your support for the PSP and CBD community by cosponsoring the Senate Resolution recognizing May 2026 as PSP & CBD Awareness Month.
