Reauthorize the Older Americans Act Now
Tell your US Representatives to support the OAA this week
On Tuesday night, the Senate passed a reauthorization to the Older Americans Act. It will next be considered in the House. Please encourage your Representatives to support the OAA! If it does not pass before the end of the year, we must start the process anew.
This OAA supports Adult Protective Services (APS), the Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program, and other elder abuse prevention programs and the draft bill contains important updates to elder justice programs, like adding elder abuse training in the National Family Caregiver Support Program.
Reauthorizing the OAA would allow us to continue combatting the sinister force of abuse, neglect, and exploitation of older adults and people with disabilities in America. As we approach the 60th anniversary of the Older Americans Act in 2025, this is the optimal moment to pass a bill like this which extends the law and modernizes it for the future.
