Reauthorize the Older Americans Act Now
Tell your US Congressional Representatives to support the OAA
The Older Americans Act (OAA) was due for reauthorization in 2024 and after much bipartisan negotiation in the Senate and House of Represenatives, Congress ran out out time.
On July 14, 2026, the Senate passed the bipartisan Older Americans Act (OAA) Reauthorization Act (S. 2120). The bill mirrors the bipartisan collaboration from both chambers in 2024 as well as minor increases in authorization levels.
Now we need the House to take up the bill. Tell your members of Congress to that a speedy OAA reauthorization is crucial to protecting our important programs.
This OAA supports Adult Protective Services (APS), the Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program, and other elder abuse prevention programs and the draft bill contains important updates to elder justice programs, like adding elder abuse training in the National Family Caregiver Support Program.
Reauthorizing the OAA would allow us to continue combatting the sinister force of abuse, neglect, and exploitation of older adults and people with disabilities in America. If it is not reauthorized by the end of 2026, we must start anew.
