Oppose HB68 "Student Protection Act" & HB137 "School Safety Act"

As your constituent I strongly urge you to oppose both HB68 and HB137 
which would prevent students suspected or charged with a crime of violence 
from attending school, including all public schools and any private school 
that receives state funds.


A bedrock principle of the US legal system is that an accused person is 
presumed innocent until proven guilty. HB68 and HB137, clearly violate 
this principle by preventing students, who are either just suspected (HB68) 
or charged (HB137) with a "crime of violence", from attending public schools 
(and private schools with any state funding) until the student’s case is resolved.  
Such cases can take many months to be resolved.  Schools already have 
mechanisms for handling suspensions without this law. These bills would 
force potentially innocent students to be removed from school for long 
periods of time damaging their likelihood of finishing their education.


Help us protect these children whose guilt has not been determined 
from having their education seriously damaged.  Please oppose HB68 
and also oppose HB137!
