Preserve AHRQ’s Vital Role Amid HHS Reforms
Urge your Senators to fund AHRQ as an independent federal agency and emphasize the importance of AHRQ's role in improving healthcare delivery and patient safety.

We're asking you to contact your Senators and tell them to extend the FY 2025 funding level for the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) to FY 2026 appropriations and to reconsider plans to dismantle the agency. In March, Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced plans to reorganize and consolidate several agencies and offices under HHS including merging AHRQ with the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation (ASPE) and moving its functions to a new entity under HHS called the Office of Strategy. In May, the Trump Administration released a “skinny” budget blueprint that decreases AHRQ’s budget by $129 million.
The elimination of AHRQ as an independent agency puts federally funded health services research at serious risk. AHRQ is the leading federal agency that funds the development of clinical resources, guidelines, and education informed by evidence-based research that discovers how to improve the way care is delivered to patients. The healthcare epidemiology, infection prevention, and antimicrobial stewardship communities rely on AHRQ funding to advance research in preventing the spread of antimicrobial-resistant organisms and healthcare-associated infections. Without AHRQ’s support, the future of this unique and critical research is unknown.
Feel free to customize the draft letter to the right by including details about your AHRQ grant-funded research if applicable or the value of the clinical tools and resources for the frontline healthcare personnel you support. If possible, include a personal story or elaborate on your role or expertise so that you can personalize this message.
Thank you for your advocacy!
