As documented in a report called "Qualified Renters Need Not Apply":

<li>In a series of Fair Housing tests conducted throughout Greater Boston, Black testers who said they were looking to rent an apartment encountered race-based discrimination 71% of the time – despite having a good income and credit history profile.</li>
<li>Testers who said they had a housing voucher – whose rent would be practically guaranteed to be paid every month – encountered discrimination 86% of the time.</li>
</ul>
Pending legislation would provide effective tools for cracking down on housing discrimination.

Take a Stand Against Housing Discrimination!

Housing discrimination is RAMPANT in Massachusetts.

As your constituent, I am writing to urge you to weigh in with the Economic Development bill conferees and with leadership in support of including provisions targeting illegal housing discrimination in the final version of the pending legislation. 

The provisions targeting housing discrimination in the House version of the Economic Development bill, as well as legislation previously passed by the Senate (S.2959), would provide effective tools for cracking down on housing discrimination and for holding accountable those real estate professionals who engage in discriminatory practices.

• In a series of Fair Housing tests, 71% of testers faced discrimination on the basis of race - despite having a solid income and credit score profile.

• 86% of testers faced discrimination when seeking to use a housing voucher – also illegal in Massachusetts – despite the fact that when a tenant has a voucher, the rent is sure to be paid every month.
