We Need Your Voice Heard
Take Action: Help Protect Access to Care & Research for the Alpha-1 Community

These are the Issues Important to Our Alpha-1 Community
Dear Alpha-1 Advocates,
We need your voice—now more than ever—to protect the Alpha-1 Community. Congress is actively debating legislation that will affect access to treatment, coverage, and life-saving research. Your outreach can make a difference. Please take a moment to contact your Members of Congress
through our new action alert system.
Key Issues:
1. The John W. Walsh Home Infusion Act (HR 2343)
Named in honor of the Alpha-1 community’s tireless champion, John W. Walsh, this bill would ensure
Medicare covers home infusions for rare disease therapies like those needed by Alpha-1 patients. We are urging the House to add co-sponsors now—your Representative needs to hear from you.
2. Protect Medicaid from Harmful Cuts
The House-passed "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" includes sweeping Medicaid changes—adding work requirements, midyear certifications, and copays—that could disqualify vulnerable individuals from coverage. The Senate is now considering even deeper cuts. We must act to stop this.
3. Prevent Deep Cuts to NIH Research Funding
The proposed FY26 budget would slash NIH funding by 40%—a devastating setback for rare disease research. The Ad Hoc Group for Medical Research is calling for at least $51.3 billion for NIH to continue its lifesaving work. We need to protect future discoveries and ensure continued hope for Alpha-1 families. (LINK TO ACTION ALERT)
