Help Reduce Administrative Burdens

Support SB 162: Stop Unfair Insurance Takebacks

Administrative burdens in healthcare delay access to medically necessary care, negatively impact patient outcomes, cause healthcare provider burnout, and contribute to rising healthcare costs.

The Ohio Physical Therapy Association supports several initiatives that will enable physical therapists and physical therapist assistants to spend more time on patient care, lower stress, improve efficiency, and lower costs.

Senate Bill 162
Senate Bill 162, sponsored by Senator Bill Blessing, aligns an insurer’s deadline to recoup (takeback) payments with the same time frame providers have to submit claims, replacing Ohio’s current 24-month recoupment window.

The bill prohibits insurers from charging a provider for appealing a determination of overpayment or modifying claw back time frames during an active contract.

Status

The bill had a sponsor hearing hearing before the Senate Financial Institutions, Insurance, and
Technology Committee on September 30, 2025. A proponent hearing was held before same committee on October 21, 2025.
