Take Action to Expand Federal Housing Funding!
We need you to raise your voice TODAY to advocate for a budget that provides resources for Virginia's housing needs.
Background
The Commonwealth of Virginia largely relies on federal investments to address our housing challenges, with state contributions accounting for little more than 10% of total federal funding for housing initiatives. Please join us in urging Congress to strengthen, not shrink, its commitments to affordable housing and homelessness.
Now is the time to show the impact of HUD programs in your community and urge your representatives to:
- Fully fund Housing Choice Voucher renewals and provide ongoing funding for the 60,000 Emergency Housing Vouchers nationwide (over 800 in Virginia) to prevent families from losing their homes.
- Increase funding for public housing operations and capital needs.
- Provide $4.922 billion for Homeless Assistance Grants to ensure communities can meet urgent needs, including serving older adults, families, youth, survivors of violence, and people with complex health challenges.
- Invest $20 million in the Eviction Protection Grant Program, and at least $1.3 billion for Tribal housing.
- Protect programs like HOME and the Fair Housing Initiatives Program, which are essential to Virginia’s ability to build affordable homes and enforce fair housing laws.
Take action today by sending an email to your Members of Congress. Urge them to reject harmful cuts and pass a final FY26 bill that fully funds affordable housing and homelessness programs at the highest level possible. Together, we can keep the pressure on and ensure every Virginian has access to a safe, stable, and affordable home.
