Delegate Destiny LeVere Bolling has introduced HB 937, to encourage the implementation of innovative low-cost or no-cost alternatives to transporting students to and from school on school buses, including organizing and facilitating biking or walking school buses.
Walking and Biking School Buses, where students walk or bike to school together in a group with an adult leader, help students:

<li>learn pedestrian safety</li>
<li>participate in daily physical activity</li>
<li>build relationships with peers and community members</li>
<li>arrive at school on time each day, in time for school breakfast and ready to learn!&nbsp;</li>
</ul>
This bill has been assigned to the House Appropriations Subcommittee for Elementary and Secondary Education, and will be heard soon! Please ask members of the subcommittee to vote YES when HB 937 comes to them for a vote.&nbsp;

If passed, this bill would give school districts more flexibility to support, organize, and facilitate biking and walking school buses for students.

Walking and Biking School buses help encourage students to learn and practice pedestrian safety, reduce chronic absenteeism for students, and promote daily physical activity, helping students arrive on time to school safely and ready to learn. Investing in active transportation has health and safety benefits for students, as well as benefits that extend to the whole community.
