Every signature matters in the fight to support medical research

As one whose family is terribly affected by a chronic rare disease, I respectfully urge your attention to prioritizing the funding for rare disease research with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the Fiscal Year 2025. The NIH, within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is the largest single public funder of biomedical research in the world, and America should be championing cures to improve the health of American families.

Approximately 30 million people in the United States have a rare disease. About 1 in 10 people are living with one of the 10,000 named rare diseases and many are suffering with an undiagnosed disease. Most rare diseases do not have treatments.  

Funding is imperative for the NIH to conduct and fund medical research to develop treatments, improve diagnosis, and support clinical trials for people living with rare diseases. Funding can help identify rare genetic causes of disease through genomic sequencing and expanded healthcare options for those suffering terribly.

Supporting a healthy population is bipartisan. The American people overwhelmingly support medical research funding to improve the lives of their families and friends. Your assistance and commitment to maintaining and increasing rare disease and medical research funding, specifically through the NIH, is critically important.  Thank you for your leadership.
