Take Action to Support Behavioral Health
Behavioral health services are of critical importance for the millions of Americans living with mental health conditions and/or struggling with addiction and substance misuse. Accessible and effective behavioral health care benefits individuals, families, and their communities in a number of ways, including preventing the need for more costly intervention, such as emergency room visits and hospitalizations.
For example, an economic study conducted in Indiana found that crisis services saved the state an annualized $45 million in jail services by diverting individuals with mental health and substance use crises away from jails and into appropriate care.
Community Mental Health exists thanks to the long standing bipartisan support for behavioral health services. However, significant cuts to federal behavioral health funding, be it Medicaid coverage or core grant areas, would jeopardize access to therapy, crisis intervention, medication management, and other life-saving services.
