Support Increased Funding and Hiring for the National Park Service

I am writing to urge you to support increased funding and hiring for the National Park Service, including critical investments in science, climate change research, biodiversity, long term monitoring, and resource management and NPS staff that make this work possible.

National parks are facing growing challenges from climate change and habitat loss to aging infrastructure and increased visitation. Science and long-term monitoring are essential tools that allow park managers to make informed decisions that protect wildlife, preserve ecosystems, ensure visitor safety, and guide responsible investment in our parks.

After losing 24% of the NPS workforce since January 2025, NPS staffing shortages are limiting the ability of parks to carry out this mission-critical work. Underfunding has resulted in fewer park rangers and scientists available to protect park resources, maintain safe conditions, and provide safe access to our parks. 

Our national parks are vital public assets that support local economies, conserve biodiversity, and provide opportunities for recreation, education, and inspiration. Sustained investment is necessary to ensure they remain protected and accessible for future generations.

I urge you to support increased funding, restore staffing levels, and prioritize science-based management to ensure our national parks remain protected and accessible for future generations.
