Ask your Legislator to Support Funding for Employment Programs

Thousands of New Jerseyans with disabilities depend on the Extended Employment program to learn job skills, earn income, and live with independence and dignity. These services are more than just support—they’re a pathway to stability and inclusion.

Unfortunately, the FY2026 budget proposal includes a $3.4 million reduction to this program. That’s why we are urging you to support the resolutions that would restore funding to the FY2024 levels: $5.4 million for employment services and $1.4 million for transportation—$6.8 million in total.

Providers are already doing more with less—grappling with inflation, workforce shortages, and increased costs. This cut would jeopardize their ability to serve those who need it most.

Senator Andrew Zwicker and Assemblywoman Carol Murphy are championing this effort through Senate Resolution No. 461 and Assembly Resolution No. 382. We respectfully ask you to join them in supporting these resolutions and standing up for New Jerseyans with disabilities.

If not reversed, this would represent one of the most significant reductions to disability services in recent memory. We are asking for your support of the resolution to restore this funding and return the program to its FY2024 levels—$5.4 million for Extended Employment services and $1.4 million for transportation grants—for a total of $6.8 million.

This restoration is essential. Agencies providing these services are grappling with rising inflation, increased labor costs, and ongoing workforce and supply chain challenges. Without full funding, these programs will be unable to sustain their current level of service, putting at risk the jobs and progress of thousands of New Jerseyans with disabilities.

Senator Andrew Zwicker has introduced the Senate resolution to restore Extended Employment funding as Resolution No. 461. Assemblywoman Carol Murphy has introduced the Assembly version as Resolution No. 382. I strongly encourage you to cosponsor these resolutions and support them when they come up for a vote.

I am writing to request your support for Senate Resolution No. 461, introduced by Senator Zwicker, and Assembly Resolution No. 382, introduced by Assemblywoman Murphy. These resolutions seek to restore full FY2024 funding for the Extended Employment program in the FY2026 budget.
