I am a member of the North Carolina Medical Society who cares for patients in our State, and I am writing today asking that you support the proposal for Medicaid expansion provided by SB 408.

Expanding Medicaid to close the insurance gap and provide affordable insurance options for working families will positively impact every community in our state. Medicaid expansion will increase access to health care, including preventive care and mental health and substance use services, and increase the amount of compensated care our rural primary care workforce can retain to grow their practices and invest in their communities. 

Medicaid expansion will not only impact clinical drivers of health and well-being such as access to care and quality of care, but also key economic factors including job creation and strengthened economy in rural and underserved areas in our state. Medicaid expansion will also improve utilization of services, the affordability of care, and financial security among the low-income population.

Please support working families and rural health care today by supporting SB 408.
