Respiratory Therapists Raise Awareness about the need for Cardio pulmonary rehabilitation
We need permanent telehealth virtual pulmonary rehabilitation for Medicare beneficiaries.
U.S. Senators Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), and Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) introduced the Sustainable Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Services in the Home Act (S 3021). This bipartisan legislation is a companion to HR 1406 introduced in the House of Representatives.
The ability to furnish home-based cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation services through the COVID-19 pandemic proved to be transformative for patients and providers. This legislation will permanently allow patients acess to these life-saving programs at home and reduce unnecessary hospitalizations.
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a leading cause of death in the United States, and we must use every tool at our disposal to combat this chronic condition.
The bipartisan Sustainable Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Services in the Home Act preserves access to needed care by permanently allowing patients to receive in-home cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation services under Medicare telehealth rules. This flexibility ensures patients are able to continue rehabilitation even when hospitals and outpatient centers may be inaccessible and rural community members who typically must travel far to receive care can access care virtually in their homes.
