While we are optimistic that the incoming Governor and General Assembly will be supportive of our efforts, we cannot take anything for granted.

Virginia REALTORS® will once again pursue legislation in the 2022 General Assembly Session that will allow us to engage with health insurance providers to obtain quality, affordable coverage options for our members.

While we are optimistic that the incoming Governor and General Assembly will be supportive of our efforts, we cannot take anything for granted.

How can you help? 

Act below and tell your Delegate and Senator to support our efforts this year.  We need to send a loud and clear message that 2022 is the year to get this done.

In the 2022 General Assembly Session, the Virginia REALTORS® will once again seek the ability to develop and offer a series of health insurance plans to our members.

The high costs associated with health insurance in the marketplace, for sole proprietors and independent contractors, are the consistent reason we hear why approximately 20 percent of our members go without coverage. 

They simply cannot afford it.

This year, Senator George Barker and Delegate Keith Hodges will introduce legislation that will allow the Virginia REALTORS® the ability to negotiate health insurance options for our members. 
The legislation will:

•	Require the Virginia REALTORS® plan to cover the Essential Health Benefits of the Affordable Care Act;
•	Require all of the Virginia-specific health insurance mandated benefits;
•	Protect our membership from discriminatory underwriting and pricing practices;
•	And protect our membership from denial of coverage based on prior medical history or pre-existing conditions.

I hope that 2022 will be the year that we can finally offer relief and coverage options to my friends and colleagues. The Virginia REALTORS® Government Relations team will provide your office with more information as the Session approaches.
