<p>Traffic violence is a public safety crisis in Denver. Ninety-three people were killed on our streets last year, and progress on <a href="https://denverstreetspartnership.org/what-we-do/vision-zero-denver/" target="_blank">Vision Zero</a> and safer  multimodal transportation has fallen far short of what was promised. Solid plans exist, but implementation, funding, and urgency are lacking. Every delay means more preventable injuries and deaths.</p>
<p>On March 11, our Day of Action called on city leadership to move from promises to delivery. We’re urging Mayor Johnston and the Dept. of Transportation and Infrastructure Director Amy Ford to accelerate proven safety redesigns, restore dedicated funding, and prioritize people over car speed. Demand safe streets from Denver public officials!

I’m writing as someone who moves on Denver streets often, and I am deeply concerned about traffic violence and the lack of tangible progress on street safety and multimodal transportation.

Earlier this year multiple organizations released a Mayor’s Report Card that graded this administration poorly for a lack of implementation of projects that would improve transportation outcomes, and I have to say I agree. We have a solid Vision Zero plan, but this administration has been reluctant to make the street design changes necessary to save lives. The consequences are deadly: hundreds of people have been killed on Denver streets since 2016, when Denver promised to end deaths and serious injuries on our streets by 2030. Just last year, 93 people were killed. 

This isn’t a planning problem. It’s a delivery problem.

I urge you to: 
 - Restore funding for Safe Routes to School, bike lanes, transit and other multimodal improvements.
 - Fix the most dangerous streets with road diets, bus lanes, and protected bike lanes.
 - Put safety over driver convenience, even when there’s pushback.
 - Install speed cameras and reinvest the revenue in street safety.

Denver has the plans. Now we need YOUR decisive, transparent action to save lives.
