When Denver increased parking meter rates in 2021, the City committed to using these funds for safer streets initiatives. The so-called Transportation & Mobility Fund generates about $15 million a year, ostensibly for things like safer crossings, bike lanes, and transit. But in the draft 2027 budget, the City plans to use $8.9M of this funding to pay for parking operations.
Use our email form to ask City Council to require the Johnston administration to prioritize real safety investments, protect revenue from being siphoned off for other purposes, and set clear rules for how it can be used, like requiring half to go to physical improvements such as protected bike lanes and spending the money on implementation of all Denver’s great plans like the Vision Zero Action Plan.

Tell Denver City Council: Stop the misuse of funds in 2027

The City's Transportation & Mobility Special Revenue Fund (SRF) was created to decrease traffic violence by investing in pedestrian, bicycle, transit, and Vision Zero safety improvements. Instead of funding safer streets, the Mayor’s draft 2027 budget calls for $8.9M to be redirected to parking operations.

Please commit to amending the 2027 budget to use the SRF for multimodal and safe street improvements, AND amending the SRF ordinance to define allowable uses, demonstrate accountability, and to protect the original intent of the fund in future budget years.
