New York City needs to improve how mental health situations are handled, making sure that those who are experiencing a crisis get the appropriate care. Intro 722, the B-Heard Reporting Bill would improve transparency and accountability around how mental health emergency calls are handled in New York City. The bill requires the city’s Office of Community Mental Health to publish quarterly reports on 911 calls involving mental health crises, including whether the B-HEARD (Behavioral Health Emergency Assistance Response Division) team responded and how those calls were handled.&nbsp;
By requiring consistent public reporting, the bill would help policymakers, advocates, and the public better understand how the city’s mental health crisis response system is working and where improvements are needed. This transparency can help ensure that people experiencing mental health crises are connected to trained health professionals and receive appropriate care rather than situations escalating and becoming more harmful for the individual.&nbsp;

We need data! Support the B-HEARD Reporting Bill

I am writing to urge you to sign in support of Intro 722, the B-HEARD Reporting Bill. 

Intro 722 would increase transparency around how New York City responds to mental health emergency calls by requiring regular public reporting on 911 mental health crisis responses and the role of the B-HEARD program.

In order to improve the way our crisis response systems work, community-based organizations and the public need to know how, where, and when the B-HEARD systems are working.
